Happy Valentines Day for anyone for whom it is still the 14th! And I suppose you could consider this Kusano birthday fic, too. Poor Kusano, he deserves better. ;_;
Shige woke up grumpy.
He wasn't fond of Valentine's Day. He didn't dislike it, either. He just didn't really see the appeal. Where was the fun in obligation chocolate? There was nothing special about it and nothing romantic or cool.
There wasn't much fun in getting joke cards, either. Shige eyed the card, bursting with pink and red and a cut up doily badly pasted on top, liberally sprinkled with glitter and signed withKusano's autograph. There was what looked like dried noodles glued on in the top right corner, too.
He opened it warily. The message read: "Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you're a better kisser now than you were four years ago."
Shige sighed. This was not the thing he wanted to find in his bedroom first thing in the morning. Clearly he had to talk to his mother about conspiring with his friends.
Four years prior on a particularly boring Valentines Day, they had been having a big girly sleepover when Shige made the mistake of telling Kusano that he'd never kissed anyone the proper way before. Oh, sure, he'd played kiss chasey in the playground in kindergarten but he felt like that didn't really count.
"I can't believe you've never properly kissed someone before," Kusano said. "Are you a five year old? Lame!"
"Shut up," Shige said, scowling. "It's not a big deal."
"Only someone who'd never gotten kissed would say that."
"Like I want to. It looks gross and unhygienic."
"You sound like a five year old. Lame!"
"Stop saying that," Shige said, and pushed Kusano. Kusano let himself tumble to the floor with the force of Shige's puny push, giggling like mad.
Shige crossed his arms and looked at his bedspread. He didn't think there was anything wrong with not going around kissing people all the time. He was just fine with the way things were.
Kusano muttered, sly voice, "I could kiss you."
"What? No! Why would I want you to kiss me? Gross!"
"Better than being a big baby and never kissing anyone."
"It is not!"
"You know, Koyama's already having sex. I wonder what he thinks of being friends with a big baby."
"I'm not a baby! And he doesn't care."
"He must feel so awkward having his weird baby friend Shige around when he wants to talk about big boy stuff."
"Who talks like that? Kusano, you're being an idiot."
Kusano edged closer and put a hand on Shige's knee. "Come on, Shige. You know you want to."
"I do not," Shige said, pushing him away.
"But you're curious, right?"
Shige made the mistake of looking back at Kusano and his mischievous face. "A little. Maybe."
"Come on! Let me," Kusano pleaded.
"Why do you even want to kiss me? Isn't that kind of weird?"
"It's-- It's not like that," Kusano protested. "This is about you."
Shige rolled his eyes.
"It's important for your education as a man!"
"You're an idiot."
Kusano sat up on his knees and raised a hand to Shige's face. "Are you going to let me do it?"
Shige froze, eyes wide. "Okay. But don't tell anyone."
"Why would I want to tell anyone? As if I'd want people knowing I kissed you."
Kusano closed his eyes and leaned in close. His hair was sticking out all crazy and Shige had the brief thought that Kusano looked like a porcupine. He burst out laughing before Kusano could even reach him.
"Sorry," Shige said, still laughing.
"Do this properly," Kusano whined.
"Fine!" Shige quietened down.
Kusano moved in close. Shige still thought it was a bit weird but he tried not to laugh. Kusano kissing him just felt strange. He tried to relax into it and not think too much but it wasn't working.
Kusano opened one eye. "You're not exactly doing your part here."
"Maybe you're just such a bad kisser that I can't. Maybe it's you who needs the practise."
"I do not! Girls kiss me all the time."
"You're just practising so you can look good in case Kamenashi-kun ever returns your passionate love for him."
"Shut up! It's not like that."
"Fine! Let's start over again."
"Okay," Kusano said in a small voice.
He leaned back in. First just pressing his closed mouth to Shige's, then slowly opening his mouth and swiping his wet tongue over Shige's lips. Shige still didn't get what the big deal was. It felt kind of slimy, like a big wriggly slug was trying to enter his mouth.
Shige opened his mouth and Kusano's tongue slipped inside. It just felt sort of odd, not good or bad but strange. Shige tried to return the kiss properly but he didn't know if he was doing it wrong or if he should even try.
Kusano put a hand on Shige's shoulder. Shige wondered what he was thinking. He wondered whether Kusano had really done this as much as he'd said. He wondered what would happen if Koyama found out.
His mouth felt kind of wet. It was getting easier, somehow less weird, the longer it went on. Shige started to feel that he could do this without being embarrassed.
Kusano's tongue slid across the roof of Shige's mouth and Shige jerked back, laughed.
"What?" Kusano asked, grumpy look on his face.
"There's nothing wrong with the way I kiss," Kusano whined.
"I never said there was!"
"Let's do it again."
"No!" Shige exclaimed and pushed Kusano over. "That would be kind of gay."
"It's not gay if you don't tell anyone. Plus, it's my birthday tomorrow. It's like an early present!"
"If you try to kiss me again I'll tell Koyama what really happened to his blue shirt," Shige threatened.
"Fine," Kusano conceded, pouting.
Shige wiped his mouth on his sleeve and ignored him.
Somehow, it had come out in conversation with Koyama the next day. Shige hadn't even meant to and couldn't even remember how the conversation got around to that point but he just blurted it out. Koyama made strange noises like a choking bird and that's when Shige realised his mistake.
"No! Forget I said that. I didn't say anything. Hey, look at the weather," Shige babbled, panicked.
"Shige!" Koyama gasped, wide eyed.
"I really think those clouds are really interesting," Shige said.
Koyama didn't say anything.
"...Koyama?" Shige ventured after a few moment's silence.
"You really kissed Kusano?" Koyama asked, voice sounding strange.
"No! Okay, yes, but it's not how it sounds. We were just playing a game. We weren't being weird or anything."
"No, it's-" Koyama gulped loudly. "It's okay."
"Really? You don't think I'm weird?"
"No weirder than usual," Koyama replied. "Ah, did you-- Was there any touching?"
Shige felt like he had to be seeing things because Koyama looked sort of disappointed. He wasn't even going to think about that.
Shige couldn't imagine why Kusano felt the need to bring it up again beyond wanting to annoy him. He didn't feel that he needed any more annoyances on top of the usual today.
Koyama called when Shige was halfway through getting dressed. He fumbled for the phone with the one arm he'd managed to get through a sleeve, answering, "What do you want?"
"Good morning, Shige," Koyama giggled in his happy little voice. "Happy Valentines Day!"
Shige grunted, expressively.
"It's not that bad, Shige!" Koyama exclaimed happily. "Have you gotten anything yet?"
"Kusano gave me a stupid card," Shige complained.
"Hmm, I guess that makes him the girl."
"Shut up! It's too early for this," Shige grouched. "I want to go back to bed."
"Stay awake, Shige! I'm coming over," Koyama said.
"Why?" Shige whined, still struggling with his shirt.
"I'll be there in half an hour. Wait for me!"
By the time Koyama reached his door Shige had succeeded in his battle with his clothing and was fully dressed, though not feeling any more ready to face the world. Shige's mother let Koyama in
Shige favoured Koyama with a scowl when he burst into his room.
"Show me the card!" Koyama exclaimed.
Shige pointed to his desk where the exuberantly decorated monstrosity lay.
"Wow, you can really see his feelings in this," Koyama said, snickering.
"Ugh," Shige said and sat back down on his bed. He wrapped himself back up in his covers.
"Shige," Koyama said, sitting down next to him. "Don't you want to see what I got you?"
Shige elbowed Koyama, not too hard, just to make his dislike of the whole thing known. Koyama draped himself all over Shige like a big, lumpy blanket.
"No, I don't."
"Come on, Shige," Koyama said right to his ear, breathing his stinky morning breath all over Shige's face.
"Why didn't you brush your teeth before you came here?" Shige asked, horrified.
"Because I'm sure Shige loves me even when my breath stinks," Koyama replied, sing-song voice.
"Ha! I want a divorce. I don't love you any more," Shige mumbled.
"That breaks my heart," Koyama wailed melodramatically.
Koyama flopped about like a fish which set Shige off laughing. That, of course, set Koyama off laughing, too, and they giggled until their faces hurt. Shige eased backwards onto his bed, lay back on his pillow and dragged Koyama down with him, Koyama's arms wrapping around Shige's bed covers. The only sound was Koyama's breathing and the light sounds of people banging about in the kitchen.
"What are you giving me?" Shige asked, finally, breaking the silence.
"I'm giving you my love!" Koyama exclaimed.
"In other words, you didn't actually get me anything. You lied!"
"Yes, I admit it! I just lied to get you in bed with me," Koyama said, snuggling closer.
Shige smacked the side of Koyama's head. In response Koyama just flopped back on top of him and started to stroke his fingers through Shige's hair.
"Have you bought Kusano's birthday present yet?" Shige asked.
"Can't you just buy something and pretend it's from both of us?" Koyama asked. "I'm tired."
Shige raised an eyebrow. "You wouldn't be tired if you didn't get up at the crack of dawn to annoy people."
"But it's fun!" Koyama replied.
Shige felt like if they stayed like this much longer he'd fall back asleep. Koyama's long fingers rubbing gently against his scalp and the side of his face was relaxing. It was comfortable like this, wrapped in his bedding and in Koyama.
"You know, you don't have to make up excuses to get me into bed with you," Shige said.
"I could tackle you and wrestle you into bed instead."
"Yes," Shige said. "That's much more sensible."
Koyama laughed stupidly to himself. Shige dragged the covers out from under Koyama's heavy body and spread them over both of them, closing his eyes and listening to the sound of Koyama's even breathing.
AND THEN THEY INEXPLICABLY DECIDED TO HAVE THE SEX, THE END
