X-Factor: My favourite superpowered soap opera right now, spoilers for #45
I finally found X-Factor #45. It pleases me greatly. You know, except for the boring and mildly confusing parts in the future mostly featuring characters I don't really care about, heh. I, unlike everyone else, actually really like Shatterstar's shiny new haircut. He used to look like the kind of long-haired guy that actually wouldn't bother to brush his hair all that much, and now he looks all neat and tidy. If only Rictor would also stop looking like such a dirty hobo... or the art stopped making everyone look so fug...
The future bits are sort of confusing. It took me until the second read through to realise Doom is supposed to be a crippled guy with an oxygen tank and the servant is robotic and the more flashy vision of him is his own delusion - but then why does he look hale and hearty on the TV screen? Inconsistent. Also, I thought Layla's retelling of his life was clunky. I don't particularly care about Ruby Summers and Layla/Jamie still skeeves me the fuck out. Also, oh god the art why is everyone so ugly?
I did like, though, that finally the future bits and present bits are tied together through the Cortex storyline, which is intriguing me. I'm wondering if Cortex is related to Tryp somehow.
Ooh, I do really like this issue's cover. I also really like some of the colour work inside, especially on the last page.
The Rictor-Shatterstar-Guido-Maddox the dupe part really delivered for me, though. I like how Shatterstar basically just tossed people about like they were paper. Also, like the silly quippy stuff and Shatterstar's fantastically homosexual outfit. Those boots, geez. I liked how Rictor the giant idiot kept trying to be gentle and cautious with Shatterstar even though he was trying to kill them. Guido was awesome, too. I like how he was all '...his bones are hollow?!?' and calling Mojoworld a whack-job dimension (because hahaha agreed). Also, dug Shatterstar's doofy look of confusion when Cortex got distracted and stopped with the mind-control.
I really had throught Peter David would continue to tease with the Rictor/Shatterstar and not actually go there, and I was fine with that. So, of course, because I cannot predict what Peter David will write worth shit, he goes and makes it canon.
Oh man, cover for next issue looks awesome. Theresa is totally my second favourite character in the series and I cannot wait for her to come back into the story.
Oh, also I watched the unicorn episode of Merlin. That was so pretty. Oh, Arthur ♥
